What important features home buyers really want? To find out, the National Association of Home Builders recently surveyed more than 3,600 home buyers. Cost-efficient, energy- efficient homes with features including Energy Star rated appliances (94%) and windows (89%) topped the list of buyer wants. While a majority of buyers were concerned about their home’s environmental impact, 67% would not pay more to lessen that impact. They would, however, pay more for a home that would save money for utility costs (73%).
Storage is also high on the buyer wishlist. Laundry rooms (93%), linen closet in the bathroom (90%), garage storage (86%) and walk-in pantry (85%) were highly sought after. Three-car garages were also in demand, with the third-car space being used for – storage!
Looking at home design, casual open-concept homes, where the kitchen is the virtual center of the home are what buyers want.
Other features identified by home buyers as important included:
•Exhaust fan in bathroom — 90 percent
•Exterior Lighting — 90 percent
